About The Studio
First and foremost, this amazing place exists because I believe in family. I consider my instructors family, my friends are my family, and my students are family. Plus, my family is my family! After several years in corporate jobs, my husband decided to go to work for himself (he made this website, isn’t it dreamy?) and I decided to follow suit. I had the perfect job for myself in mind, and the perfect reasons for doing it… the following is how Vega came to be…
I created Vega Dance+Lab back in the Fall of 2004, after several years of searching for a dance studio in Portland that fit my needs. I felt a tad too old for the studios catering to younger dancers and I was too busy to commit to registering for a month-long dance session where I had to show up every week at a certain time or I lost out on the class and got behind in what we were learning.
I realized that this perfect (for me) dance place was missing because I was the one who was supposed to create it. I have always known exactly what I wanted and how I wished it would be operated. Once I realized that, I hit the ground running and in two weeks time I found a wonderful old gentleman named Harold to lease me space in his building. I had no financial books or business history whatsoever, but based on my word and a batted eyelash or two, he agreed to take a chance on me.
Beginning with only three instructors, we opened for business, And well, the three of us spent many nights here at Vega in the old days, wondering if people were going to show up for class! Let’s just say that very very long scarves were knitted back then.
Slowly but surely, they DID start showing up. And now we are growing up and have so much to offer. More classes, more instructors, and a diverse range of dance for all levels.
This is my home away from home, and I pride myself on the fact that you will find kindness (and badass dancing) within these doors. Not only are my instructors wonderful and easy to get along with, but so are our students. I observe from not-so-afar, friendships being forged by people who meet each other in dance class, and have created some strong friendships myself with students who found the same passion for this place as I have.
I love it here. I think you will, too. Evie Graham
