Vega is currently developing three styles of performance groups: A new hip hop crew, a street jazz group, and a burlesque troupe.
Hip Hop: Push Jones Auditions August 17th 11:00am
Come ready to learn two routines, perform them, and be judged on:
Accuracy
Style
Personality
Push Jones, named after a brilliant and mysterious artist, is being directed and choreographed by Evie Graham and Allison Franco. We expect commitment, kindness and desire to succeed! We are looking for people to:
Be at practice!
Have a good attitude!
Be a responsible ambassador to the entire group! That means you represent the group in AND OUT of rehearsal. :) i.e. are you a nice person? Do you help old ladies cross the street? Do you get kittens out of trees? Are you humble?
Enjoy the process, not just the performance.
Have a Team Mentality and help each other.
Performing is only the destination. Most of the time, the true growth and memories are happening during the travel to that destination. So if you are serious about getting to work and being part of a team, then come and show us your stuff!
There is no set practice schedule yet, but we will probably meet every Sunday in the afternoons. The closer we get to a scheduled performance, it is likely that more rehearsals will be added as necessary, in the evenings after classes get out.
We are very excited about this new group and are proud of each and every one of you IN ADVANCE for even thinking of trying out.
Something helpful would be to have a general idea of how many people to expect, so feel free to respond with your name and/or number to "register" for the audition!
Thank you! See you soon!
Evie G. and Allison F.

Street Jazz:The Femmes Foxx
Auditions for The Femmes Foxx, our street jazz group, will be conducted soon, too.
When we have firm dates and details regarding these, we will MAKE SURE YOU KNOW ABOUT IT! So keep the emails and phone inquiries to a minimum until then, darlings. We will do a studio newsletter to your email address (if you provide us with one) and MySpace bulletins, and put this information right on our home page!
Burlesque:Sugar Q
SugarQ is the brain child of Evie Graham, founder and creative director of Vega Dance+lab. Each of the six dancers in the troupe was handpicked by Evie from her standout students and teachers. Skilled in hip hop, jazz and contemporary dance, the SugarQ dancers bring a wide variety of individual experience to the troupe, but when they are together they are all about burlesque. Burlesque, which is generally a combination of drama, humor and sex is enjoying a contemporary revival and is growing in popularity around the country. It's not quite mainstream in Portland yet, but when audiences experience SugarQ's uninhibited approach to the sensual art of the tease (which is not to be confused with stripping or sleaze), the glitz, glamour and freedom of expression are likely to earn them the top spot as ambassador of the art form and establish burlesque as a mainstay of Portland's already progressive arts scene.
Their first show "Speakeasy" is a feast for the senses. Beautiful bodies, glittery costumes, and, of course, a sly, sexy "pick up artist" to retrieve the discarded fringy underthings with style, humor, grace -- and a mysterious little twist.
The girls of Sugar Q are available for booking! For more information contact Evie Graham at evie@vegadancelab.com or go join them at www.myspace.com/sugarqburlesque
